Hi Cihan, welcome in the 5 shoot interview for differentgrooves.com !

1. Briefly, what can you say about your musical background and your first approaches to electronic music?
My parents are Turkish, and I was born in Germany, and now I’m living in Belgium but I grew up in the Netherlands, where I have the best memories.  I grew up listening to some pop and hip hop records. Music was a part of my life every single day from the time I can remember. I eventually discovered electronic music. For me it started from anything like trance to electronic hardcore then into the deeper stuff like house and deep house, techno etc. There is a maturity that occurs when you discover electronic music. For some people it’s easier to listen and to “understand” things like edm or trance or electro pop etc. It takes time to discover the deeper stuff as you mature.  :-) I really felt a special connection with electronic music. It moved me in a way nothing else did. I’ve seen a lot of artists within all types of music and I know how difficult it can be to kick off your career to the point where you are travelling and touring. I consider my lucky to be in a position where I have played in different parts of the world. Some places I have played in are England, Turkey, Poland, and other European places.  In the beginning I was not really trying to make it as a professional dj or artist, I just went with the wave and enjoyed the ride and see where things could take me. It became much more serious for me as the time passed. I really saw a potential and really felt that if I worked hard this could really happen for me. I’m glad to see that little steps I have taken throughout my life have taken me in the right direction. So then I really just began to prepare myself learning music and also learning the production aspect of things. I started my first work on Cubase and a regular computer. Things have advanced so much now and I love technology.

2. When did you start to produce your own songs and which are your main sources of inspiration?
I started producing in the 90s. It was a totally different sound and name that I had back then haha. In 2000 I had my first release. Around that time I was already into some of the house music I had been hearing and also into the darker techno and tech house stuff. So I just thought to myself that it was going to be important for me to focus on my productions and develop my craft and create something with quality that is a piece of me. I feel that I have been perfecting my sound and still learning new things everyday. I soak up all the knowledge that I have gained and continue to gain through experience and listening to people who have so much knowledge. Inspiration comes to me from so many different places. I have to say its not always music. Inspiration can come from just a feeling, a person, or experience in my life. I use it to help me put soul and purpose into my music.

3. Thinking about your releases published on different labels, what are the ones you mostly enjoy?
I have to say all of the labels I have worked with have been so kind and generous to me. I’m so grateful to the people who believe in my music enough to want to release it and stand behind it like I do. But I’m also happy to say that I’m working hard and for 2014 my new label Ella Unique will be in full effect. I have created a home base for my friends and myself to release unique and special music. I can’t reveal everything yet. But there are some big surprises regarding my label that will be coming in 2014. I’ll be excited to share with you all when it will be the time.

4. What do you expect to get with your music in the future?
You know I really have to say that it’s a difficult business and everyone is out for a piece of a big pie. I would just like to share my music and other people’s music that I respect. I hope to be able to just do what I love to do and not have a major worry about the monetary side of things. I know it’s a key factor because the truth is we all have families and need to eat and have a roof over our heads. But I feel that when things are done from the heart, things have a way of working out. And everything I do I have put my heart into.

5. Is anything new forthcoming in the next months you wanna tell us about?
New releases in 2014 on my label Ella Unique, we will have both digital and vinyl releases and I’m so excited about this, I will share more news regarding this in the near future. I’m also excited to develop and help showcase some of the other artists on my roster because they all bring something to the table and so talented in their own respect.
