Fledgling Berlin based imprint Toy Tonics look to the excellent DJ Steef for their latest EP of low-slung house music…

Germany’s Toy Tonics label has made quite a splash since its launch early this year, releasing a string of quality records featuring underground house music from the likes of Hard Ton, Dimitri From Paris, Moon Runner & Daniel Maloso. Now the label looks to Marseille producer DJ Steef to provide an EP of outstanding grooves.

Dj Steef AKA Frédéric Berthet has been one of Southern France’s main proponents for deep, disco influenced house music, releasing records through labels such as Magic Wand, Editorial, ZE, Superbreak and DiscoDat and picking up support from DJs such as Weatherall, James Murphy & Tim Sweeney. For his latest release on Toy Tonics he offers up a stunning EP with six original new tracks.

The EP kicks off with ‘Venusian Missing’, an organic sounding slice of deep, melodic house that features an infectious falsetto vocal. Next up we have ‘Fomo Men’ which sees Steef journey into stripped backed, heads down territory for a subtly musical percussive workout. Track number three, ‘Nocturne’ takes things to the floor with a disco tinged house groove that works subtle keys and vocal stabs into a funk fuelled groove. ‘More Lifes’ has a laidback slo-mo house vibe to it, solid chunky and engaging whilst ‘Angels Behind the Bar’ takes an ethereal and jazz inflected turn. Finally we have the excellent ‘Fleche’ which rounds the package off in style, adopting some classic 90’s house motives to wonderful effect.

Toy Tonics make be new on the scene but they know good house music and are certain to moving dancefloors in the months and years ahead.
