The first ever Flow Festival outside Helsinki has started in Slovenian capital city Ljubljana, assembling thousands of festival lovers from all over Europe looking for a unique experience for all the senses. – Day 2 starts with Flow Talks featuring Zmago Novak City of Design at 5 PM, with Pet Shop Boys, Run The Jewels, Bonobo, Bad Copy and Torul headlining the music part.
Metronomy, Jose Gonzales, Derrick May, DJ Koze and Edo Maajka have sound-tracked day one, while visitors were able to enjoy the Utter 2 exhibition by Slovenian Venice Biennale representative Jasa, climb the artificial wall and ride longboards. The pop up store showcasing some of the hottest young fashion and applicable designers from Slovenia also seems to be attracting lots of attention, though it was the whole visual transformation of Tobačna city complex that triggered most of amazements.
“I’ve never thought something like this could be done here”, “Oh, it’s so romantic”, “This is one of the most delightful festivals I’ve ever been to”, “I definitely have to be more involved next year”, “Ljubljana really needed something like this” … are just some of the comments expressed the by the visitors, amazed by the colorful, eclectic, playful yet tasteful and coherent charisma of the 130 years old tobacco factory complex that was decorated by fresh graffiti, visual projections, urban furniture, light and art decorations and hundreds of clever little interventions that made usually quite dull city administration center bursting with life and youthful energy.
“I’m happy that Slovenian and international crowd recognized our effort to showcase a bit different festival story and accepted it so positive,” said artistic director Tuomas Kallio. “In over a decade Flow Helsinki become one of the most significant European festivals celebrated for it’s unique concept that reaches far beyond selling music and beer. We’ve manage to infuse this idea into Ljubljana edition, fusing it with the spirit of this city, its residents and creative community, building something similar, yet still a bit different.”
Flow Festival Ljubljana continues today with the first half of Flow Talks panels, which aim to bring together the Slovenian design and creative industries community, you still have time to check the hidden gems at Artish fare, get a new hipster hair or mustache cut, enjoy the selected Slovenian and world cuisine as well as performances by Pet Shop Boys, Run The Jewels, Bonobo, Bad Copy, Torul and many others.
