Japanese producer Fuminori Kagajo delivers a funk-fuelled 4-tracker for the second release on Italian imprint Roots Underground Records’ vinyl series.

With a strong attitude towards instrumental music, Kagajo is often involved in band projects and collaborations with numerous musicians, whilst as a producer he’s appeared on Fatsouls Records, Trippin Records, Slip ’n’ Slide and King Street Sounds. DJing since 1996, he’s supported the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Ian Pooley, Fabio & Grooverider amongst many others, however his musical influences lay in 70’s funk, jazz, fusion, not to mention early house from New York, Chicago and Detroit.

He now joins Roots Underground Records’ vinyl roster, which launched their label digitally in 2012 and have since hosted Alex Agore, Roy Gilles and Miruga plus remixes from Kai Alce and Lady Blacktronica.

‘Chase Down’ implements catchy notes and a smooth bassline before the high-octane ‘Aggregation’ sees Kagajo deliver energetic keys and infectious melodies from start to finish. ‘The Tropics’ then sees the arrival of saxophones and shuffling rhythms to generate a jazzy aesthetic until ‘Depths Of The Forest’ concludes the package with deep chords and echoing effects.

Fuminori Kagajo ‘Chase Down’ drops on Roots Underground Records in Late October 2016.
