Germany’s house and techno firecracker Kevin Over returns with a white-hot two-tracker on Adam Beyer’s Truesoul confirming his status as one of the scene’s most exciting rising stars.
Recently tapped by Mixmag as a Hot Six inclusion in their upcoming May issue, while DJ Mag USA likewise included him in their Cheeky Bubblers section, both the media and his peers agree Kevin stands for all that is inspiring and future-facing in the world of house and techno.
Backing up ‘Broken Jam’, his outstanding debut release on Truesoul in the latter stages of 2015, the artist comes strong with the powerful ‘Duster’ EP. The title track is an irresistible vocal-led groover that in trademark Over style, builds towards a heavy hitting drop as humming bass and crisp drum work to amplify the affect on impact. ‘Ode’ betrays the young Germans old skool heart and musical dexterity in equal doses, as sharp breakbeats are paired with soulful vocals that give way to a sublime melodic break creating a dreamy contrast to the original. No surprise Beyer used it as his opening track on DCR292 in early March.
“For my ‘Duster’ EP I wanted to return to the idea of a classic two tracker with an A-Side and a B-Side. The title track ‘Duster’ is based on an essential vocal sample that works as a central theme in there. It should make a stand against the dry and dubby beat, which makes the interesting part for me and keeps the level of experimenting and crowd-pleasing. ‘Ode’ on the B-Side works with a broken beat, a melancholic mood and a straight beat that follows and changes the dynamics. It’s all about playing with different dynamics in here.” – Kevin Over
