Underground electronic music label Minimood celebrates ten years of existence with a stunning double 12”, vinyl only release, presenting the finest dub infusions. The original comes from Luke Hess and Sascha Dive with pioneering figures Delano Smith, Steve O’Sullivan and Tobias on the remixes. For a decade now this label has contributed high-quality stripped back deep house and dubby techno to the scene, and this anniversary ep again offers high class music for connoisseur dance floors worldwide.
Luke Hess is a Detroit producer with credits on labels like FXHE and a seriously deep and atmospheric sound, while Deep Vibes label boss Sascha Dive is just as considered when it comes to reduced but impactful grooves. Their ‘Polyphonic Minds’ is nine fantastic minutes of well-crafted and dubbed out deep house. The hi-hats are big and airy, synths are skewed and smeared to add dynamism and the whole thing exudes a fuzzy warmth that cannot fail to hypnotise.
Delano Smith, another Detroiter, has long been a key figure in techno thanks to his fine array of releases on Sushitech amongst others. His remix is more direct and uptempo but just as dubby. The chords are fatter and more cavernous here, with a slickness to the drums that is truly infectious.
Then comes Blueprint boss Steve O’Sullivan, known to the heads as Bluetrain or The Wise Caucasian and for his peerless dub techno and minimal house on his own Mosaic as well as Sushitech. His masterful rework is from the Maurizio school of frosty dub techno, with hissing static and oodles of echo and reverb encasing you in richly detailed sound.
Tobias. serves up two different but equally essential remixes. He is the Ostgut Ton artist with a well honed techno sound and singular style that takes him round the world. His first contribution is a dark and spooky affair, stripped back to coarse claps and eerie pads, and his second is a menacing ambient work out that draws you into its bleak and desolate world.
This is a suitably tasteful and standout EP from a label that has always dealt in music with a lasting impact, and this one is no different.
