Analytic Trail label boss Markantonio delivers ‘Metric’ this January, backed with a remix from Drumcode artist Alan Fitzpatrick.
Markantonio has been a driving force in Italy’s thriving Techno scene since the nineties, welcoming the likes of Davide Squillace, Paco Osuna, Joseph Capriati, Ramon Tapia and Cari Lekebusch onto his Analytic Trail imprint since launching in 2001. He’s also know for his work with labels such as Unrilis, Alchemy and Suara, remixing reputable names such as Mauro Picotto and Alan Fitzpatrick who returns the favour in this release.
Title track ‘Metric’ opens the release, a driving, energetic cut built around weighty drums, eerie atmospheric background depths and a hooky organ style synth line. Sporadic spoken word vocal
lines and off-kilter claps meander around the earth-shattering groove while elongated delays and drawn-out reverb tails build an expansive hidden depth.
Next up is Drumcode artist Alan Fitzpatrick’s interpretation of ‘Metric’, employing a similar heady facet. Raw, rock-solid drums and ever-evolving background depths lead the way in a linear fashion with additional percussive elements being introduced every thirty-two bars in true techno fashion. Fitzpatrick delivers what he does best here, dark and edgy techno designed for the dance-floor.
Closing the release is ‘Di Rado’, a drum-led cut with crunchy 909 drums, shuffling snares and expansive reverberated synth shots motivating the groove. The track structurally evolves by introducing and retracting its sparse elements throughout the duration of the cut to create an ever- evolving dynamism, baroque changes and a deep impact at every movement.
This is yet another great release from the Analytic Trail label, Markantonio’s ‘Metric’ EP is out on
