Martinez is a producer who always delivers, regardless of whether he’s behind the decks or in the studio. His latest EP for flourishing Dutch imprint Memoria is testament to the fact, so it’s hardly surprising to learn that it’s already been given an emphatic stamp of approval by astute tastemakers such as Ricardo Villalobos, Reboot, Barem and many more.
“Keppont” kicks off the release, with its menacing barrage of low slung bass causing the proverbial damage. Minimal-minded yet crafted with an infectious percussive sound at its core, it sees the prolific Scandinavian in vintage form.
“Pygmalion” too has already worked some of the globe’s most notorious dancefloors, with Loco Dice even dropping it at the always monumental Cocoon closing party this past summer. Tribal and energetic, it’s crafted in the sort of style that both DJs are synonymous with. This is one to work the bass bins: the essence of techno boiled down to deep, sleazy essentials. The ‘Beats Dub’ of “Pygmalion” is similarly layered in atmospheric tones, with its weighty percussion and rollicking hats interjecting at sporadic points. As such, it wraps up the package with the sort of distinction we’ve come to expect from Martinez over the years.
