Secretsundaze makes a return after Flori’s exquisite ‘Lucy’ EP (Mixmag’s July house ‘Single of the Month’ and awarded 4/5 on Resident Advisor) with the ‘Configure 8’ EP from Nyra, a young gun with a promising future. He’s been honing his craft for a while; his biggest record to date was ‘The Best Of’ EP released on the London based Never Learnt imprint – a pumped up slamming house groove with a techno mentality that was hammered by the likes of Radio Slave, Midland, Mr G, T. Williams, Ben Sims and pricked the ears of our very own Giles Smith and James Priestley.

The lead track ‘Configure 8’ is a slick, fluid techy groove with a huge bassline vaguely reminiscent of Mathew Jonson’s ‘Decompression’. A grand statement? We think the comparison is justified. This peak-time track is suited for the main room (at least on our dancefloors) and has already been doing some serious damage. On the flip, Nyra is in a more reflective mood; ‘Three Form’ is smooth, subby and atmospheric – subtle but still with plenty of power.

For the remix, we brought in our old friend Tobias Freund, who has regularly performed live at secretsundaze over the years. Known worldwide as a producer’s producer, he’s been quietly plying his trade for many years, making a name for himself with his 2006 hit “Street Knowledge”, his 2012 LP for Ostgut Ton ‘Leaning Over Backwards’ and his more avante guarde work as Non Standard Productions. Whereas the original is very direct, Tobias’ remix is more arty, deep and hypnotic. He teases out the groove, bringing elements in and out of the mix to create a great soundscape where the devil is definitely in the detail.

Overall another super strong EP from secretsundaze that shows the label is embracing all that is good within electronic underground dance music and nurturing home – grown UK talent.
