Ruben and Sergio Pellon are Monkey Brothers, a long established duo release a new EP here that features the vocal talents of Giedre, one of the most famous singers in Lithuania and all the Baltics. The EP features two originals and remixes from Omer Grinker and Monkey Brothers themselves and goes way beyond the dancefloor.

Releasing everything from deep house to minimal techno Monkey Brothers have appeared on labels like Regular Records and have remixed people including Pablo Bolivar, but this might just be their best release yet. On vocals is Giedre, someone who has been collaborating with and singing solo for years and has amassed a huge following in her native Lithuania.

‘Golden Fish’ goes first and is a slow and predatory track with stripped back drums, sombre, withering slices of synth and crisp drum hits. It’s full of mood and a certain sense of sadness, but when Giedre starts her whispered, dulcet vocal there’s a real sense of late night sexiness and intimacy floods the track. Some slow, jazzy trumpets help, as do the watery sound effects and muted guitar licks. It’s full of ambiance and emotive tones, frankly and is a beautiful listen.

Remixing this one is Israel talent Omer Grinker who returns to the Parallel foldl. His take on the track re-imagines it as a louche and lazy house groove with plenty of spangled basslines, tinkling pianos and downbeat trumpets. It’s as fresh as it is refreshing and proves the man to be a fine talent.

Next original ‘My Joy’ is more uplifting, but in a subtle way thanks to the heart-warming vocals and rippling piano chords; the combination of organic strings and synthetic gurgles is really fantastic. The standout production is humid and analogue, a little dusty and perfectly aged so that it is warm, inviting and intimate.

Monkey Brothers themselves remix this track into something a little more suited to the dancefloor: the result is a raw, deep and dynamic house track with great textured percussion, fine synth work and a really infectious groove.

This is a stunning package that offers something for the dancefloor but also for those romantic late nights spent at home.
