It’s often said that you can’t keep a good man down. And Piero Pirupa is living proof of the fact. Having taken the electronic music world by storm this past summer courtesy of his ubiquitous ‘Party Non Stop’, the Italian is already back with another instalment of guaranteed party-starting jams.
This time around, it’s the turn of Mihalis Safras’ imprint to play host to Pirupa’s many talents. The ‘Oldies EP’ is one that’s aptly titled too; not least because it sees the man in question return to the old-school house aesthetic that he was raised on.
The title track, with its swathes of retro appeal, frenzied drum interplay and phone-esque samples, leads the charge with a tailored dance floor appeal that practically forces the listener to get on down. Relatively simple it may be – but this one too boasts all the hallmarks of another guaranteed hit.
The second of the two originals sees Pirupa travel toward more ‘heads down’ territory, with ‘Past Stuff’ more reliant on a relentlessly portentous backdrop as opposed to say, a seriously beguiling bassline. The flip side to Pirupa’s more ‘accessible’ sound, this one is crafted with the more discerning side of the spectrum in mind. Pirupa’s back to basics approach has evidently served him well.
