Following on from their most popular release to date, colo’s ‘Midday Sun’ EP, TAKE close out the year with a 12″ from Rick Grant, who has previously released music via the ManMakeMusic and Double Dice imprints.
‘Crossing’ slowly creeps into action, with heavily-saturated pads and atmospherics making room for a shifting 2-step rhythm and weighty low-end.
The first of the mixes sees Exit Records’ Consequence rewire the original’s melodic elements, pinning them to a pulsing 170bpm groove and further emphasising the subsonic frequencies. Next, Hotflush and Leftroom signing (and TAKE regular) Jack Dixon hangs his deft vocal chops over a bass-heavy 4/4, with occasional splashes of dense, ethereal pad making for an exciting counterpoint. Finally, Mr Lager, formerly of Various Production, rolls out a ten minute-long house opus, thick with atmosphere and undulating percussive synth work.
