Having recently featured on the Omnidisc 004 release with the heavy analogue track to get lost in of ‘Prima Nocte’, Schmutz release their debut full EP release for Omnidisc with the ‘Transgender’ EP, straight up techno that does not mess.
The duo of Conor MacParland and Kristian Woods are at the forefront of house music in Northern Ireland; playing regularly across the city’s premier electronic venues, Shine, Stiff Kitten and Thompsons Garage. Having first teamed up musically as promoters of their renowned ‘Schmutz’ parties in Belfast, the twosome invited house and techno heavyweights Midland, Hunee, Leon Vynehall, John Talabot and Gerd to Belfast.
After honing their output in the studio, Schmutz released their first twelve inch EP on Gerd’s European powerhouse 4LUX label, the raw analogue dominated ‘Slaned’ EP garnered support from the likes of Deetron, Boddika and Ben Westbeech, as well as earning Radio 1 play from Heidi.
A mixture of 909s, 808s, Juno 106, SSL XRACK with Cubass dominate the sounds of the ‘Transgender’ EP.
‘Cartographer’ is late night serious techno that lifts you up somewhere else.
‘Blue Dust’ is techno that allows you inside its warm and dark tunnel, balancing a dark fullness that circulates with hi-frequency noises from outer space.
‘Transgender’ pumps hard on its techno quest as synths weave in and out to make sure you are paying attention.
As Schmutz continue to define their unique style of electronic house and techno, forthcoming releases on Berlin-based Dirt Crew Recordings, and local house crew Extended Play will no doubt contribute further to their progression.
