Having already released on Martyn’s 3024, remixed Sepalcure’s Hold On on Hotflush, and put out two incredibly well-received singles on Naked Lunch and Craig Richard’s new imprint, The Nothing Special, drum ‘n’ bass don Marcus Intalex returns in his Trevino guise to channel yet more deep, dark, 130bpm-range house- techno and post-dubstep constructions with ‘Discovery’.
With one eye on his roots and one set firmly on the future, he has managed to carve out a sound that is entirely relevant today; a sound that draws as much inspiration from the late eighties Chicago and Detroit scene as it does from the more current, dub-inflected, bass heavy UK sound, and everything in between.
Speaking about the EP, Marcus admits,”It’s a showcase of the different styles and tempos I’ve been enjoying. I do think Trevino will at some point become a little more 4/4 as time goes by but when I wrote these tunes late last year I was just letting myself experiment, crossbreeding my love for music past and present.”
‘Discovery’ is already gaining support from some of the key figureheads at the forefront of this new, burgeoning and constantly evolving sound, including: Loefah, Scuba, Oneman, Paul Woolford, Martyn, 2562, and Ben UFO. There’s a good reason why.
