2012 – year of the London Olympics – and in some sort of parallel, Lucidflow’s latest release is like their very own collection of Olympian musical mastery. Admittedly there are only three countries participating in this event, but we’ll just roll with this shall we?

Flying the flag for Switzerland is turkish rooted Onur Ozman, his sabre-esque percussion slicing at the surfaces of your eardrums. Inception reduces you to tatters and then bandages you in emphatic rising synths, an exercise in controlled drama. This expertly demonstrates why his is climbing through the ranks of the Tech House scene.

Although he also lives within the borders of Switzerland, Paul Eg is stepping up to represent his home nation of Brazil. A veteran of the scene, with a career starting in 1996, his releases on his own label, Minimo Imprint, have found their way into the capable hands of DJs like Jeff Bennett, Florian Meindl and Quantec. Where Inception was about heady release, The Sorrow is about restraint and tension – a subtle and bassy groove punctuated with laser zapping percussion.

Finally we have Spaniard Dave Marian, proving to be the Michael Phelps of the package with two tracks for consumption. Both Dub Terminal and Slow Feelings dial the tempo right down, concentrating on gaseous dub atmospheres that spread out in front of you like early morning mist.

The big question, of course, is who has won the gold out of this little lot? Well, after much deliberation, we have decided that it is a joint first place on the podium. Bet you didn’t see that coming.
