Viberate Testing Out “New Music Economy” With Music NFTs

The concept of blockchain-backed contracts could transform how artists manage their bookings – but is the industry ready?

In April, Viberate worked with acclaimed Techno DJ and producer UMEK to successfully drop the world’s first live gig NFT. Now, the music research and analytics platform has published an open call to all musicians who might be interested in what they call “the new music economy”.

With it, Viberate plans to test whether the NFT craze is more than just a fad, and whether the music community is indeed ready to start managing bookings and fan engagements with the help of big data insights and tokenized contracts.

“It was an amazing opportunity and I’m so glad I went for it,” UMEK commented on his drop. “We sold both my live gig NFT and my livestream NFT in less than 24 hours – and to an L.A. venue of all places. What’s more, I immediately got another offer for a Miami gig thanks to the drop, so you can imagine my absolute joy – not only will live events finally return after all these months being stuck indoors, I’ve just secured bookings in two of my favorite cities on the planet! Now, I hope more industry people will jump on the bandwagon, as NFTs are more than a current craze – they’re the beginning of a smarter, safer and more flexible way of doing business.”

Viberate proposes three main NFT categories: live performance NFTs, livestream NFTs, and customized “experience” NFTs (artists engaging with their fans on- or offline, e.g. going shopping with them). Any interested artist or their representative can submit their NFT application here.

Body Language by CIOZ Cover

Coz ‘Body Language Vol. 23’

Artist: Cioz
Title: Body Language Vol. 23
Label: Get Physical Music
Cat. #: GPMCD249
Format: Digital
Release Date: 4th June 2021

Body Language Vol. 23 is the much anticipated new compilation album from story-telling DJ and accomplished producer Cioz.

The Body Language album series has been a flagship for the Get Physical label since the mid-noughties, with instalments taken over by Dixon, DJ Hell, Francesco Tristano, DJ T., and many more. Now the label welcomes the excellent Cioz into the hot set.

Volume 23 is packed with Cioz remixes, collaborations, and standout singles from the well-regarded and self-taught artist. Some are brand new, some have been teased on EPs in the lead up to the full release, but each one proves he is an artist with an accomplished sound. Cioz hails from Bergamo in Italy and has established a fine reputation on labels like Monaberry and Stil vor Talent.

Body Language Vol. 23 opens with ‘Soul Fixer,’ a slow-building, slow-burning synth-scape filled with drama and tension. Then comes his subtle yet superb remix of M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade’s stone-cold classic ‘Body Language’ with its irresistible lead melody line. The first of many collabs is with Corpino on ‘Kari Lampi,’ a slick and supple minimal house track awash with gorgeous strings. Further collaborations include the bustling drums and fizzing synths of ‘Hey Honey’ with T.M.A, late-night headiness of ‘Haunted’ with Nairobi D, and organic grooves of punchy floor-filler ‘Focus Pocus’ with Boy Oh Boy.

At the midpoint, there is depth and darkness to the turbulent synths of ‘Imperfection’ with &lez, and then beautiful tension between the tight bass and beautiful melodic breakdown of ‘Warm Worm’ with Sides. The fantastic ‘Jodi Rush’ with Super Flu is sure to twist heads on the dance floor with its complex synth patterns, and a Lucky Shot Extended Mix of ‘Dancing in the Night’ has a perfectly soulful vocal over rubbery house grooves. Much loved Cioz tunes ‘Rain’ and his Neapolis Remix of Patrice Bäumel’s ‘Clair’ from earlier EPs make the cut and lend yet more depth and enchanting melody to this most thoughtful and atmospheric of electronic journeys.

With Body Language Vol. 23, Cioz proves he is an artist with a wide range of different, equally emotive house styles in his arsenal.

Remixer: Mark Broom
Label: Blumoog Music
Cat. #: BLUG014
Format: Green translucent vinyl, digital

1.Odyssey
2.Flash
3.Odyssesy (Mark Broom Remix)

Electronic innovator M.R.E.U.X cooks up more of his powerful sounds on a bold new EP that comes with a huge remix from techno royalty Mark Broom.

M.R.E.U.X. is the Blumoog label boss with a pounding and original take on techno that has made him a scene regular in his native Italy. His label is known for its inventive machine sounds, and after his Gravity EP late last year featuring a Joel Mull remix and his superb Modular Immersion backed with a remix from Ben Sims, he is now back in fierce form once more.

Different influences can be noticed on this fine three tracker. Across the two originals, M.R.E.U.X fuses techno, dub and house and dresses them with a heavy bassline and quirky electronic motifs. Excellent opener ‘Odyssey’ is nearly five minutes of pure bliss with a dub-tech feel and granular inserts that makes it even more captivating. ‘Flash’ is characterised by deep and absorbing sub bass and persistent hi-hats that are appeased by atmospheric moments halfway through that really captivate your emotions.

UK techno pioneer Mark Broom has a career and acclaimed successes which span more than 30 years. He is the Pure Plastic and Beard Man label owner and has also collaborated with, and released material on many iconic labels such as Drumcode, R&S, Blueprint, and Soma just to name a few. His superb ‘Odyssey’ remix is a more bouncy take that develops into jacking, hard hitting beats that are sure to burn down the house.

These are three characterful, well produced techno weapons that cannot fail to stand out in any set.
