Rennie Foster is a respected figure in Canada’s music and arts community with over three decades of influence. A pioneer of the early hip-hop and B-boy movement, he later became a key contributor to the development of house, techno, and rave culture in Western Canada. His early graffiti work has also been widely documented in publications dedicated to the artform.

In 2004, he relocated to Tokyo, becoming an active presence in Japan’s electronic music scene. He held residencies in Tokyo, Kyoto (Metro), and Shizuoka, and performed at venues including Womb, ageHa, and Yellow, as well as major festivals such as Nagisa Music Festival. During this period, he was consistently ranked among Japan’s top DJs by LOUD Magazine, reaching #22.

Since returning to Canada in 2011, Foster has remained a key figure in the underground scene, including a decade-long residency at Gorg-O-Mish (2013–2023) and his ongoing curation of Zenyasai at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre. He has also performed at major Canadian venues and festivals including Bass Coast, Shambhala, Rifflandia, and Soundwave.

His discography spans releases on influential labels such as Transmat, Third Man Records, F Communications, Ingoma, Synewave, Teknotika, and Rebirth Records, home to his underground classic Devil’s Water. He has collaborated with artists including Juan Atkins, Rick Wade, James Zabiela, and Altern 8, and has released music on imprints such as Skylax, Weapons of Desire, and Soiree Records.

Foster continues to push forward through his own label RF, staying rooted in raw house and techno while maintaining a strong visual and artistic identity through collaborations with designers including Alexander Gelman and Abdul “HAQQ” Haqq.
