Terrence Dixon and M.R.E.U.X make a stylish return with two tracks each of pure Detroit techno on Blumoog Music.

Dixon perfectly embodies the Motor City sound. He is a Detroit icon, a master of minimalist sound design and a globally recognised stamp of authenticity who is hugely prolific. He has released on labels like Metroplex, Tresor and Rush Hour and is never less than thrilling in his work. He shares this EP with M.R.E.U.X., the Blumoog label boss with a pounding and original take on techno that makes him one of the most respected players in his native Italy. His label is known for its inventive and reliably big sounds and here, with Dixon, he proves his loyalty to true, old-school underground techno.

M.R.E.U.X.’s ‘Toxic F21’ opens up with psychedelic sounds looping over chunky, bouncing techno drums. The whole thing rushes forwards and takes you with it for the thrilling and high-powered ride. The superb ‘Green Fax’ then comes on strong with glitchy percussion skating around a linear techno groove. The drums land heavy and warped synths flesh out the drums with an industrial-tinged edge.

Terrence Dixon then takes care of the flipside with two untitled tracks. The first is pure cosmic techno, with sleek synths pulsing off into the future. Ambient pads swirl about the stereo field to bring a cinematic atmosphere as the deep, pummeling drums rise up and eventually take over. The second is a more haunting affair with edgy and paranoid chords layered up over another minimalist techno groove. It’s as unsettling as it is hypnotic and truly takes you down the rabbit hole.

Total Chaos is a supersized return from this supersized techno duo.
