“Zoi’s EP on TRAUM!

Zoi (CA) is one part of the duo Talal & Zoi. Born in Pakistan Zoi is based in Toronto now a city which has shaped his music into what it is today. Zoi started out his music career with T&Z (Talal & Zoi), they had chart-topping releases and was featured on labels such as Dirtybird, Kindisch, Moodfamily, Rawthentic and For the People. The duo is also known to have delivered performances at Kater Blau (Berlin, DE), Keizer Park open air (Ghent, BE), Bushwick’s Bogart House (Brooklyn, NY), and Electric Island (Toronto, CA).

Zoi’s solo career started two years ago since then he has released fantastic outstanding deep music on two of our Tour De Traum releases. This put him on our list of people we were keen to release with. The remixers on the release have also been striking with their single tracks on our label and contribute different interpretation of Zoi’s music.

“Fusion” by Zoi (CA)

The EP kicks off with the track “Fusion” and it is in fact a glorious fusion. This track draws on the sensitive mind lurking within and will get you in the mood for a voyage. The track has an atmospheric starting point and then travels far beyond it as it flawlessly navigates you way through retro-futurist landscapes, using restraint to explore the melodic and abstract. Once you have engaged yourself in this travel you will be rewarded with a sound uniquely expressive, yet subtly arranged variant of deep left field house music-music that takes you by the hand and never puts a sonic means before its aesthetic goal.

“Fusion” Vanity In Mind Remix

The alchemy of the remix of “Fusion” by Vanity In Mind instantly ties his ideas to the movement of beat and crosses all sorts of terrain without ever loosing the plot. Vanity In Mind uses the pristine sound of the original but releases the magic in a different way. This in an aural pleasure.

“Fusion” Deeplomat & Dublatov Remix

Deeplomat & Dublatov’s remix of “Fusion” tears apart the original featuring an unexpected juxtaposition of sounds and textures relying on a jam session esthetic where you never know what to expect next. Listen to this coruscating live performance!

“Fade” by Zoi (CA)

“Fade” in the original mix kicks off with wailing pads and vintage funky drum patterns against the backdrop of quirky fast moving tones and might have gotten its inspiration from Brazilian music in the way it moves. This track at its peak is nimble but it never feels too busy. It is simply driving and sensual. Only Zoi could pull off this palette so gracefully.

“Fade” Floyd Hoogendijk Remix

“Fade” in the Floyd Hoogendijk remix has a less encompassing feel to it as in the original but develops into a sensual soundtrack of a superlative that could have been featured in some of the greatest French movies of the 70ies. Showing exceptional treats of melancholia as we understand them in Europe. This can send a chill up your spine.

“Fade” CtlZ’s Remix

CtlZ’s remix of “Fade” gives the track an epic edge the original did not aim at. The remix is filled with unexpected details like breaks and speedy sounds… you’d never expect them to fit but they do like a glove.

“Fade” Florian Gallet Remix

Florian Gallet has in the past written one of the most exceptional ambient tracks on Tour De Traum and we have asked to remix “Fade”. Florian’s poetic approach is unparalleled. His simplicity also makes this remix a masterpiece.

“Awake” by Zoi (CA)

The third original is “Awake” and connects perfectly to the other tracks as it is uniquely expressive and atmospheric capturing the listenerʼs attention in.

“Ajeep” by Zoi (CA)

“Ajeep” is maybe the most classic house track on this EP with its vintage chords but the break down half time is exceptionally beautiful and reveals Zoi’s full talent from then on, till the end of the track.

“Somewhere” by Zoi (CA)

On Traum it is a tradition to ask the artist for an abstract bonus track so here it is with “Somewhere”. The track is beautiful in the way the melodies are played, the perfect timing each note is exercised with. It is off-kilter as all tracks on this EP and very special.

Alejandro Fernandez ‘Bank / System Error’

Artist: Alejandro Fernandez
Title: Bank / System Error
Remixer: Raized
Label: As Usual Music
Cat. #: as usual.music 026
Release Date: Beatport excl.: 14. February 2020 / All Shops: 28. February2020

We keep it rollin’ with another significant release by new label member ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ from Spain including a strong remix by Raized from our Colombian groove embassy in Medellin. Both are experienced warriors behind the decks and relentless in producing quality stuff. Not surprising that Alejandro got into the circle of the infamous Vatos Locos label which is one of the leading labels in the underground vinyl scene. Moreover he pushed a stamp on labels like Sanity, Oblack or Monday Morning Records. Two original tracks follow the signature sound of as ‚as usual.music’ for release No. 026!

„Bank“ is the sweet stomper, that attracted us and will wrap the floors in fascination. Stripped-down shaky rhythmics swing on the boosted low-end, which is filled with a proper unit of punch and an irresistibly rasping bass sound. Dirt conditions accomplished! Sugar gets involved afterwards by a steadily flourishing and evolving sphere, tenderly verbed with a female voice. Controversal elements perfectly smoothed to get ‚banked’ in harmony.

Let’s get mad with the ‚System Error’ that releases the inner freak. A slightly wilder ride during the system’s off which ends up in some dancefloor anarchy. That’s what we need. The formula therefor is made by rumbling subs, slick hats and wondering synth notches. Works excellently.

RAIZED is back on spot, this time for the remix of ‚System Error’. The label owner of Otgen released meanwhile on Roush Label and Innocent, and returns with a wicked interpretation. With groove in his blood, he treats it like predestined for making people move. Tuning some reduced Techhouse drums and well-placed synth-usages with a great sound, is showing that he feels and lives the club culture deeply. Let’s rave!

Jesse Marcell ‘El Calvario De Los Indecisos’

Artist: Jesse Marcell
Title: El Calvario De Los Indecisos
Label: BAR Musica
Cat. #: BAR003
Format: Digital & Vinyl
Distributor: Above Board
Release date: 31/01/2020
Tracklist:
01. El Calvario De Los Indecisos
02. El Calvario De Los Indecisos (Pier Bucci Italia 2020 Remix)
03. La Fe’

Bar Musica’s fourth EP is a fascinating one from Jesse Marcell with a remix by Pier Bucci.

El Calvario De Los Indecisos opens up with intense minimal sounds, relentless drum and bass loops tying your mind in knots. All manner of dark and grubby sounds and effects scuttle across the groove and make this a late night head wrecker.

Pier Bucci then steps up to smooth things out and layer in some more soft and soulful late night chords. It flip the cut into a more dreamy number for trance inducing late night sets.

Last of all, Marcell offers La Fe’ with its high tempo drums, pressurised kicks and sweeping sense of minimal tech funk really getting you deep in the groove.

This is a superb offering from this vital label, and talented producers first outing.

Defected Ibiza returns to Eden

DEFECTED IBIZA 2020

15TH MAY – 25th SEPT

Defected returns to Eden on Fridays for its fourth season at the club, opening on 15th May 2020 during the inaugural Defected Ibiza Festival and running for 20 consecutive dates.

The 2020 Ibiza season will see Defected build on the reputation the label has earned on the island since 2000. Two decades later, Defected’s residency at Eden continues to be San Antonio’s biggest success story. Staying true to its ethos for making clubbing affordable and accessible, advance tickets for all 20 dates at Eden are available now for just €20.
2019 saw Defected fully establish itself in San Antonio, thriving on a no-fuss concept and a programme curated personally by label head Simon Dunmore, featuring headliners such as Armand Van Helden, Gorgon City, MK, house pioneers Kenny Dope, Derrick Carter, Roger Sanchez and many more. In a change from previous years Defected will reveal the entire season’s line-ups in early 2020, rather than in two phases.
